What will you learn?

The pre-sessional English course reflects what you will need to do in your main course and will include a mix of presentations, interactive group meetings, private tutorials with a tutor, and independent study. It covers:

  • Development of referencing and study skills.

  • Planning and structuring writing.

  • Developing academic grammar and vocabulary.

  • Cultivating independence of mind by formulating effective arguments and drawing conclusions from information.

  • Developing listening capacity through regular presentations, meetings, and note-taking.

  • Developing the capacity to extract information from lectures, group meetings, and readings for use in writing.

  • Presentation skills.

Studying at a foreign university also means immersing yourself in a completely different system. For this reason, international students are advised to take what is known as a “foundation year” or “International Foundation Year,” which is a basic general education program that familiarizes them with university requirements and working methods and facilitates their transition to a foreign university.

An International Year One is an accelerated preparatory program that offers successful students a pathway to the second year of university.

  1. How long do undergraduate degrees last?

For a first degree, most international students study for a bachelor’s degree over three years, consisting of a combination of seminars, workshops, and lectures. Some degrees, such as science and engineering, can take up to four years, while accelerated 2-year degrees allow students to finish faster. Sandwich courses last four years and include one year in a placement related to your field of study.

    Short Undergraduate Degrees

    • Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE): Lasts one year full-time or two years part-time.

    • Diploma of Higher Education (DipHE): A two-year full-time degree.
